Dos and Don'ts: The denim edition

A quick how-to on wearing America's favorite fabric

source: Glamour under Fashion and Beauty

Dont's:

1.
Don't make a mini even mini-er by pairing with heels. (If you do opt for the short styles, pair them with flats to counterbalance the hem.) 2. Don't let your denim dress you down: Had this girl traded her ratty skirt and fuchsia leggings for a crisp pair of cropped jeans, she'd be rocking a chic stripes-and-jeans combo.
3. Don't ignore one simple rule every woman should know (and this means you!): When wearing denim that is white, avoid anything too tight.4. Don't forget that, despite popular opinion, denim does not go with everything. Example number one is this woman's confusing decision to pair a bias-cut Western skirt with a pink lace top.5. Don't cover yourself head-to-toe with shredded holes. (What's OK? One--maybe two, tops--little funky tears on your favorite pairs of jeans.)
6. Don't go for denim dresses with tie-dyed washes or loud details. Stick to a clean-cut silhouette that will always be chic.

Dos:

1. Try a fitted denim pencil skirt. It's just as sexy as a miniskirt but in a polished, uptown kind of way.
2. Find a style of jeans that works for you and stick with it--regardless of what's "in". Any pair of jeans can be easily updated with one or two trendy pieces, be it a cool army jacket or a bright bag.3. Pull off white jeans (before and after Memorial Day, thank you very much) by pairing 'em with a darker color on top. Add a colorful accessory to make your whole outfit pop.4. Try a classic A-line skirt in denim: The nipped-waist and just-below-the-knee hemline will flatter most figures, while the basic blue wash will go with just about every top you own.5. Aim for that easy, all-American look: crisp white tee and standard blue jeans.
6. Add a fitted blazer to any ol' pair of jeans for an instantly pulled-together look.

Skinny Jeans (the new denim must have)

It's all skinny. It should be skinny enough to wear or at least gutsy enough to wear skinny jeans. It is accentuate long, lean leans and deviate attention from the tush.

Ranger, Cisco Kid, Zorro and Gene Autry, Marilyn Monroe, and Sandra Dee wearing their pants very slim to the ankle. Today even financial all-stars such as Kent Sowell wear them.

Skinny jeans became most notable with country music stars and with the birth of rock 'n' roll in the '50s, when Elvis donned slim-fitting jeans and shocked the country with his gyrating dance moves. Skinny jeans and rock 'n' roll were inextricably linked to create the "bad boy" image that remains today. Skinny jeans were also worn by numerous rock bands, including the The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and others.

Drainpipe jeans (as they were then called) were also extremely popular in the punk movement of the late 1970s, worn by many bands and scene leaders such as The Clash, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols and were sold by the revolutionary shop Sex, run by Vivienne Westwood. The tight fit trousers were often customised with bondage-style zips or patches of other material, and were often worn tucked into industrial-style boots such as Dr Martens.

They are fairly popular among skaters, BMX riders and inline skaters.

Skinny jeans were also very popular in the 1980s, with most heavy metal bands in particular those in the thrash scene such as Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer. This was the trend for those who didn't wear spandex, which was popular with the dominant glam metal scene at the time. They were often worn with white high-top sneakers or basket-ball shoes. By the late '80s and early '90s, many hard rock bands such as Poison, Guns N' Roses and Mötley Crüe to Kiss, Bon Jovi and Slaughter, ditched the spandex and wore the form fitted jeans. However with the rise of grunge and hip-hop music in the early nineties and the post thrash movement, skinny jeans quickly went out of favour.

In the early 2000s, they became favored by garage rock revival bands and musicians, such as The Strokes. Model Kate Moss has been credited with reintroducing the jeans to women. Among women, skinny jeans are most often worn tucked into boots or scrunched up over the wearer's footwear.[1] Skinny jeans are also often paired with ballerina shoes, another trend that supermodel Kate Moss has been credited with. The Libertines (particularly Carl Barat and Pete Doherty) used skinny jeans as part of their image. This was later adopted by more mainstream indie pop and indie rock acts such as Test Icicles, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, The Kooks and The Horrors, as well as comedians Russell Brand and Noel Fielding, increasing the popularity of skinny jeans amongst men. Some skateboarders prefer to wear the jeans because of their ability to stretch, thus making it easier to move around whilst skating. Skinny jeans are also now very prominent in the Bmx scene rendering greater maneuverability and less instances in which the pants are caught in the bikes moving parts.

Billionaire Homes

Warren Buffett lives in the same 6,000 sq ft, 5 bedroom stuccuo house that he purchased in 1957 for $31,500.

Richard Branson's home is really an island. 10 bedrooms, 10 baths and lots of celebrity guests.

Paul Allen has a 10,000 sq ft on Lake Washington. It also includes an NBA regulation-sized gym. I wonder if his Trailblazers put on shows there for him.

Oprah Winfrey's 23,000 sq ft home has 6 bedrooms and 14 baths. The property includes a quarter mile long driveway (would suck to get the news paper), and a man-made lake with rare fish.

Michael Dell lives in a 33,000 sq ft on the hill tops of Austin Texas. It has 8 bedrooms, 8 baths, 13 half baths, restaurant quality kitchen, indoor and outdoor pool, and a 5-level terraced lawn. The property taxes run about a quarter of a million per year (so stop complaining). It is the most expensive house ever built in Texas and looks more like an office building than anything else.

Mark Cuban's 24,000 sq ft mansion in Dallas Texas. Though, I'm not sure where he's going to land his $41 Million private jet.

Larry Ellison's 8,000 sq ft, 7 bedrooms sits on a penisular between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. He spent $65 million buying up 5 beach front properties to build it. It is Japanese inspired with samurai helmets and armor sculputres scattered throughout the house. Almost every room has a view of the koi pond.

Bill Gates's 66,000 sq ft compound includes a 60-ft swimming pool with an underwater music system. It has 2 "secret" bookcase doors and a 1,000 sq ft dining room. Speakers are hidden beneath the wallpaper and allows music to follow you as you walk through the house. Visitors are given a microchip upon entrance which sends signals throughout the house and a given room temperature would adjust for the user's preferences. Annual property tax is just over a million.
